Bearcats Showcase Depth in Second League Win

Playing a larger rotation due to a quick turnaround, the W.F. West boys basketball team had to rely on some new faces and limited minutes for its normal starters to beat Aberdeen, 49-35, Friday night.

The Bearcats (3-2, 2-0 2A EvCo) went back and forth with the Bobcats throughout the first quarter, but a decisive second quarter that saw them take a 17-3 advantage meant they could unleash their bench to finish off the win for most of the night.

Due to a short turnaround, 2 p.m. contest at the Moda Center in Portland against Mark Morris on Saturday, the Bearcats turned to their depth.

Dirk Plakinger led the way with 14 points, and Soren Dalan notched another double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, but Charlie Mallonee (seven points), Seth Hoff (five points), and Gage Brumfield (five points) all contributed heavily to the win.

Saturday’s game at the Rose Garden will be a rematch of the District 4 championship game between the Bearcats and the Monarchs last spring, a game Mark Morris won decisively.
