Bearcats Split Season-Opening Twinbill at Selah

SELAH — W.F. West opened its season with a high-caliber road matchup, splitting a non-league twinbill at Selah on Saturday.

The Vikings, which went 11-3 in 2021, took the opener 5-3 before the visiting Bearcats bounced back with an 8-2 win in the nightcap.

W.F. West used five pitchers in the opener and gave up just one hit, but issued nine walks. All five Selah runs came in the second inning, which featured three walks, a hit batter and two errors — leaving all five runs unearned.

The Bearcats, in turn, scored all three of their runs in the fourth frame, which included an RBI single from Jeron Martin and a single from Deacon Meller. Meller and Gavin Fugate each went 2 for 3, but Selah pitchers Carter Sealy (five innings) and Eian Peralta (two) combined for 11 strikeouts in the win.
