Bearcats Sweep Warriors Behind Balanced Attack

Four W.F. West players slammed six or more kills and the Bearcats swept past Rochester (28-26, 25-15, 25-14) on the road Monday in 2A Evergreen Conference play.

Ava Olsen led the attack with a team-high seven kills to go with three aces, while Morgan Rogerson, Anna White and Maggie Busse all tallied six kills. Kambriah Simper added four aces on 15 attempts.

“It was a slow start but we finally picked it up,” W.F. West coach Robert Lucas said. “It was exciting the first set because at the end it was back and forth. Rochester was not going to roll over. They’re a scrappy team. We had to pick it up in the second and third sets and we started playing like we can.”

Rochester was led by Roisin Stull’s match-high 10 kills and four blocks. Senior Lauren Rotter added five kills and seven digs and Hannah Rodeheaver pitched in a team-high nine digs.

“We just got a little complacent, a little sloppy and messy,” Rochester coach Bridget Morris said. “Way too many serving, hitting and passing errors.”

Morris commended sophomore Grace Hoover for moving up from junior varsity and playing well.

Rochester and W.F. West will square off again on Tuesday, this time at 7 p.m. in Chehalis.
