Beavers Bats Go Quiet in Run-Rule Loss to Grizzlies

Tenino managed just three hits and Hoquiam scored 10 runs in the first inning alone as the Beavers took an 18-1 road loss in four innings during a 1A Evergreen League contest on Friday.

The Beavers struggled to generate offense against a Grizzlies team that had seven players collect hits. The Grizzlies erupted for 10 runs in the bottom of the first, then tacked on three more in the third and five in the fourth to seal the win.

Grace Vestal scored the only run for the Beavers, while Abby Severse and Lizzy Disken each went 1 for 2 and Kiyah Goodwin was 1 or 1 with a walk.

Emily Baxter tossed 3 1/3 innings, allowing nine earned runs on 10 hits and four walks while striking out five.

“She did not have her pitches and she was all over the zone,” Tenino coach Chris Johnson said. “And they hit a lot of little bloopers where we weren’t at.”

Carron Blood threw all four innings for Hoquiam, striking out five while surrendering three hits and three walks. She also helped her own cause at the plate, smashing two home runs and finishing 2 for 4 with six RBIs and three runs.

Tenino (0-5 league) next hosts Elma in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
