The Tenino girls soccer team got back in the win column with a 4-0 win over Toledo on Monday night.

“There was a little more in this game for us,” Tenino coach Dave Montgomery said. “It was good to be able to get some goals in this game.”

Callie Mickelson got the game’s first goal in the 13th minute, and Kyla Watson made it 2-0 before the break with a goal 20 minutes later.

In the second half, Abby Robertson came away with a goal on a set piece, but it was after the ball was cleared. Robertson, who was one of the furthest Beavers back, sent it back into the box.

Mickelson and the Toledo keeper went for the ball, but the ball bounced high off the turf and into the net. Mickelson did end up scoring her second goal in the 58th minute.

Montgomery was pleased with the overall performance, but he did note that the Beavers will have to perform better when league play begins later this week.

The Beavers (4-2-1) host Montesano on Thursday and head to Elma next Tuesday, Oct. 1.

“The intensity needed to increase before league play,” Montgomery said. “If we’re going to announce to the league that we’re here, we’re going to have to step it up a notch.”
