Beavers Can’t Keep Pace With Bulldogs, But Still Alive In State Race

For the third time this season, the Tenino girls soccer team couldn’t keep up with league champion Montesano, falling in the district semifinals, 4-0, on Thursday.

On the statsheet, it didn’t look nearly as lopsided, as the Bulldogs only outshot the Beavers 9-6, but the scoreboard was a different story.

“We didn’t come out with enough intensity,” Beavers coach Kevin Schultz said. “We had one of our worst stretches of the season at the worst time.”

That stretch was in the first half, when the Bulldogs scored all four of their goals, and three during an eight-minute stretch.

The loss means that the Beavers will play in a do-or-die game against Elma for third-place in districts and a state berth on Saturday at Noon. The Beavers lost to Elma twice in the regular season.

“We have to figure out how to score goals on them,” Schultz said. “We have to be aware of their counterattacks. We have a team of seniors with experience in these situations. They know what has to happen.”
