The Tenino girls basketball team lost its sixth straight game on Wednesday, coming out of the gates slow and never fully recovering in a 43-35 loss to Mary M. Knight.
The Beavers scored just one point in the first and six in the second, and they entered the locker room at halftime trailing by 13.
“It felt like there was a lid on the bucket,” Tenino coach Kirsi Gofinch said. “Shots were just not falling.”
The Beavers battled back to make it a game late, scoring 28 points in the second half, but they couldn’t bridge the gap.
“I really feel like that third and fourth was them getting together, stepping it up, and putting the pressure on,” Gofinch said. “I was proud of how hard they fought.”
Charley Jones scored 12 points to lead Tenino in scoring, though Keira Laughlin and Georgia Gonia weren’t far behind with 10 and eight, respectively.
After a 12-day break, the Beavers (2-6) will look to snap their skid at Toledo on Dec. 30.
“I’m excited to see where our team goes,” Gofinch said. “I’m proud of how hard we’re fighting. I love to see that fight in them. Let’s just see if we can make some adjustments.”
