Beavers Drop First League Game to Bulldogs

TENINO — The Tenino girls basketball team had trouble against Montesano’s press all night long, and after not stringing nearly enough possessions together, fell to the Bulldogs, 58-34, Saturday night.

It’s the Beavers’ (12-4, 3-1 1A Evergreen) first loss in league play this season.

“Their length bothered us,” Beavers coach Scott Ashmore said. “You have to get possessions and we didn’t get enough to win.”

Star forward Ashley Schow was in foul trouble all night, and after four quick points out of the gate, had to sit for most of the second quarter after a competitive first frame saw the Beavers trailing the Bulldogs by just six.

With Schow on the bench, the Beavers just couldn’t put their offense together, and fell behind by double-digits. Ashmore commended the play of Rilee Jones, a junior post who stepped up in Schow’s absence, and Abby Severse for handling most of the scoring load, scoring 10 points.

“Severse was our best player,” Ashmore said. “She got after it and played well against their length.”

The Beavers will look to rebound against Eatonville on the road on Monday.
