Beavers Drop Match on the Road to King’s Way

In a back-and-forth match all night in Vancouver, the Tenino girls soccer team couldn’t muster a second half goal and fell, 2-1, Tuesday night to King’s Way Christian of the 1A Trico.

The Knights struck first, in the seventh minute, but the Beavers (0-1-1) responded in the 13th off some nice team passing. Coming off a Kami Oliveira corner, Nicole Fralick redirected to assist Lizzy Disken for the Beavers first goal of the season on the road.

King’s Way retook the lead in the 33rd minute after another goal, and the Beavers never found a response.

“It stinks to lose, but at the same time, this is a really good game for us at the beginning of the season,” Beavers coach Dave Montgomery said. “This is a team we’ve faced in districts three out of the last four years, we know they’re good and we got to test some things against strong competition.”

Tenino and King’s Way were about even in shots, with nine a piece, and Trinity Tafoya had eight saves, but the Beavers just couldn’t put another one through for a second equalizer.

Still, Montgomery praised the play of Fralick, who covered a ton of ground and was a “fantastic box-to-box defender,” per Montgomery. He also said Oliveira took great corners for the Beavs and Paisley Garcia dipped into the midfield well, winning balls and making connections.

Tenino will look for its first win at Ilwaco on Saturday.
