Beavers Fall to Consolation Bracket After Semifinal Loss to Eagles

The Tenino baseball team couldn’t carry its positive momentum past the 1A District 4 quarterfinals, falling to Elma in the district semis, 10-3, Tuesday at Olympic Stadium in Hoquiam.

The Beavers out-hit the Eagles in the early-going, but committed lots of errors to give the Eagles a 6-0 lead after the top of the fifth inning. The Beavers finally responded in the fifth and sixth innings, but a four-spot from Elma in the seventh effectively iced the game late.

Brody Noonan started on the mound and went 4 ⅔ innings with two runs earned on three hits and six walks with eight strikeouts.

At the plate, the Beavers couldn’t push key runs across, and struggled late to produce. Will Feltus finished 1 for 1 with three walks and a run scored, and Cody Strawn, Carson Hart, and Austin Gonia each added hits, but the Beavers just couldn’t do enough at the plate to overcome some sloppy defensive play in the loss.

Tuesday’s result means the Beavers will take on Eatonville in a consolation bracket game Friday at 2 p.m. at a location to be determined. If the Beavers win, they advance to a winner-to-regionals, loser-out contest, if they lose, their season is over.
