Beavers come back to force overtime, but fall to Wildcats

The Tenino boys basketball team played its best game of the season to this point, but the Beavers were beaten in overtime 73-68 to fall to 0-5.

“We don’t believe in moral victories,” Tenino coach Ryan Robertson said. “But we played really well tonight. We took a step forward.”

The Beavers trailed by as much as 13 in the first half, but battled back to force the extra frame.

Tenino’s offense stalled in OT, though, scoring just two points. The defense did well enough to keep the game tied until a late La Center three gave the Wildcats the lead late.

Austin Gonia led the Beavers with 27 points, while Jaxson Gore shot 6 for 11 from three en route to a 22-point night. The efficiency from three was a theme for the entire team throughout the night, as the Beavers shot 40 percent from deep.

Will Feltus added 15 points, while Michael Vassar added three and Preston Snider scored one.

“It was just the little things,” Robertson said. “We just gotta keep cleaning things up and getting better … We still have so much growth potential.”
