Beavers Put Four Past Grizzlies in Clean Sheet

TENINO — The Tenino girls soccer team went into its Thursday league matchup with Hoquiam focusing on the possession game, and the successful result was a 4-0 blanking of the Grizzlies on the Black Top.

“We used some good passing, and huge credit to a bunch of my midfielders who put in some extra work this week,” Tenino head coach Dave Montgomery said. “It really paid off, it really showed in the way they were connecting passes tonight.”

Early on, the Beavers simply were lacking their final touch, but that changed in the 14th minute, when a through ball put Elizabeth Disken behind the defense into a breakaway. Her shot from inside the 18-yard box banged off the post, but bounced right back to Abagail Archibald, who hammered it home on the first touch.

Rilee Jones made it 2-0 seven minutes later, off an assist from Kami Olivera. Olivera got onto the scoresheet herself coming out of halftime in the 49th minute, and straight off the ensuing kickoff, the Beavers got it back, and Tamara Snodderly found Disken for Tenino’s fourth goal.

The Beavers outshot the Grizzlies 16-4, keeping their fourth clean sheet of the fall.

“A lot of it was being able to possess higher up the field, but at the same time there were several moments where our back line was called upon,” Montgomery said. “Kendra Cutlip played really well at left back, and also our two center backs, MJ Gallwas and Tamara Snodderly also did a really good job.”

Goalkeeper Trinity Tafoya finished with two saves, but had a busier time snuffing out potential threats before they could amount to shots.

“She did a fantastic job coming off her line and clearing some balls,” Montgomery said. “Hoquiam tried to counter on us a few times and sneak in some long balls, but Trinity was coming up and sending the ball right back up to our attacking mids and our forwards.”

Tenino (3-5-1, 1-2 league) will get a dose of non-league play against when it goes to Centralia on Saturday for a rescheduled match.
