Beavers Put Pressure on Rainier Early in Rivalry Win

In another dominant day at the plate, the Tenino baseball team pulled away from Rainier in a high-scoring rivalry affair, 15-8, at home Friday afternoon.

The Beavers briefly lost the lead in the third inning, with the Mountaineers grabbing a 5-2 lead early, but a five-spot in the bottom of the inning and four more in the fourth helped them stay ahead for good.

“We were able to bunt and put pressure on them early on,” Beavers coach Ryan Schlesser said. “We finally started swinging it a little bit at the end and put it away.”

Will Feltus finished 2 for 4 with three runs and three runs batted in to lead the Beaver attack at the plate, with Kaden Sayamnet also adding three RBIs and 2 runs on a 3 for 4 showing. Brody Noonan starred on the mound, striking out six in 2.2 innings pitched in relief.

The Mountaineers had a fast start, but couldn’t quite get over the hump, with Ryder Cruse scoring three runs and John Kenney and Johnny Boesch going 2 for 4 at the plate.

The Beavers (5-1) will look to keep it rolling against La Center next Wednesday, while the Mountaineers (3-6) look to bounce back against 1A Eatonville on Monday.
