Seven Beavers scored touchdowns as Tenino hammered visiting Hoquiam, 50-6, on homecoming night in 1A Evergreen Conference action Friday.

Coming off an impressive 24-22 loss to second-ranked Eatonville on Saturday, the seventh-ranked Beavers showed no signs of a letdown against the Grizzlies.

“That Eatonville game was a nailbiter,” Tenino coach Cary Nagel said. “We flushed it quickly and responded well.”

Senior Oregon State-commit Takari Hickle led the offensive attack, rushing 16 times for 113 yards and a score as the Beavers racked up 393 yards on the ground and 448 total.

“Offensively, we did very good rushing the football and we played physical,” Tenino coach Cary Nagel said.

Also scoring touchdowns for the Beavers was Randall Marti, Dylan Spicer, Shawn Nicholson, Gavin Watson, Chris Butcher, Bryan Budsberg and Kysen Knox. Knox had a 55-yard touchdown pass to Budsberg.

But it wasn’t just Tenino’s offense that stood out, Spicer spearheaded a dominant team defensive effort with 10 tackles, three tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Hickle recorded two sacks, four tackles and two tackles for loss. Budsberg added an interception and four tackles.

“Our defense did extremely well flying around,” Nagel said.

Tenino (5-1, 1-1 league) hosts Montesano in a heavyweight league matchup on Friday.

“Monte is coming in with a chip on their shoulder,” Nagel said.
