The Tenino football team, aside from one slight hiccup, has kept the train rolling all year long, and the train didn’t stop in its 54-0 demolition of King’s Way Christian Friday night on the Black Top.
Punching its second straight trip to the state playoffs, the Beavers ran all the way to yet another dominant win, racking up 386 rushing yards without star back Dylan Spicer for the second straight week.
“It's pretty nice, they’ve worked extremely hard,” Beavers coach Cary Nagel said. “They have a vision of where they want to be, we just need to keep improving. It’s fulfilling to watch their hard work pay off.”
Stepping in for the second straight week to fill the void left by Spicer, Kysen Knox, Randy Marti, and Triston Whitaker did just fine. Knox again led the Beavers with 122 rushing yards and three scores, Marti added 46 yards and a touchdown, and Whitaker had two scores with 82 rushing yards.
“Knox and Whitaker and Marti, they've been doing stuff all year,” Nagel said. “Knox has been mostly defense, but he did fantastic. It's nice, we’re getting some younger guys in too, the boys are stepping up and we have a lot of guys that can play varsity ball.”
And in what has become commonplace for the Beaver defense, Tenino shut out the Knights and didn’t allow a single score all night. Tenino is allowing just 14.7 points per game and has really stepped up of late.
Now with the regular season and district crossover behind them, the Beavers will find out on Sunday around 1 p.m. where they will be seeded, but with a 9-1 resume and just one loss to a quality Eatonville squad, should be in line for hosting privileges in at least Round 1 and maybe beyond, if they get seeded in the top-4.
