Beavers Shatter Grizzlies With Staunch Defense

Tenino standout Ashley Schow scored a game-high 23 points and Tenino blew past Hoquiam for a 48-23 road win in 1A Evergreen Conference action on Wednesday.

Though Schow’s offensive firepower was impressive, it was the Beavers’ defense that was the star of the show, something head coach Scott Ashmore has had his squad focusing on all season.

“The girls played great defense all four quarters,” Ashmore said. “Solid defense from Grace Vestal and Abby Severse led to multiple deflections and fast-break opportunities for us.”

While Ashmore said the offense is still working on being consistent in the second, third and four quarters, Vetal and Megan Letts ran well in transition and Alivia Hunter was solid inside against the Grizzlies.

The Beavers jumped out to a 20-4 run to start the game and held the Grizzlies to single-digit scoring in all four quarters to secure the win.

Ashmore said Schow rebounded well, and was blocking shots and getting deflections. He also commended the performances of his bench, highlighting Bri Asay in particular.
