The Tenino girls basketball team snapped its losing streak on Saturday, defeating Seattle Christian 38-36 at The Bear Creek School.
The Beavers had lost nine in a row, including three by four points or fewer. On Friday, they lost by just one to Bear Creek.
The Beavers led by six after one, but the Warriors battled back to tie the game entering the fourth.
Tenino won the fourth, coming out on the winning end of a close matchup for the first time since its last victory, a 45-41 win over Columbia Adventist on Dec. 3.
“It feels really good,” Tenino coach Kirsi Gofinch said. “That’s three games in less than 70 hours. They were tired, but they pushed through. To see them fight to continue to work and get ready was really big.”
Brianna Asay led the way with 11 points, and she also added seven rebounds and five steals, part of the 25 turnovers that the Beavers produced defensively.
“It was good to see her come back into a little bit of her own tonight,” Gofinch said.
Kylie Gonia scored eight points, and Chlow Grayless added four. Holly Thoren scored three points and added eight rebounds, and Georgia Gore scored four points and hauled in seven boards. Jaeleen Woodward scored two points.
Tenino (3-9, 0-1 1A Evergreen) will look to make it two in a row on Tuesday, when it hosts Elma.
