Beavers top Grizzlies, move back into second

The Tenino baseball team got back in the win column on Tuesday, defeating Hoquiam 15-2 in five innings.

The win combined with Rochester’s loss puts Tenino back into second place in the 1A Evergreen standings with two league games to play.

Tenino took the lead with a run in the top of the first, but it was a 13-run second that blew the game open.

Michael Vassar had three hits, including a double, and five runs batted in, while Will Feltus added four RBIs and finished a home run shy of the cycle.

Hunter Sweet added a double and two RBIs, and Jude Leitch also brought home a pair of runs.

Zeke Haskins pitched the first three innings, allowing four hits and two unearned runs while striking out two, while Vassar allowed two hits and struck out three in two scoreless innings of relief.

Tenino (13-4, 6-4 1A Evergreen) will play North Thurston at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma on Saturday at noon before returning home to host a doubleheader against Hoquiam next Tuesday, May 6.
