Beavers Win Ugly to Move to 4-0

It maybe wasn’t the prettiest or cleanest game, but a win is a win.

Tenino turned it over 31 times, and missed several bunnies, but was able to prevail thanks to a strong rebounding and post game in a 67-49 victory over Columbia Adventist Monday night.

Takari Hickle again led the Beavers (4-0) with 17 points and 12 rebounds, and fellow post Jack Burkhardt scored nine points to go along with 12 rebounds and five blocks in the victory. Tenino hauled in 32 rebounds and 16 offensive boards as a team in the winning effort.

“We have to be able to control our tempo,” Beavers coach Joe Chirhart said. “With a young squad, they got sped up, and we have to run our offense better.”

Though turnovers were an issue, Chirhart was impressed with his team’s improvement from the charity stripe and from outside, where the Beavers made five of 10 three-point attempts in an efficient shooting performance.

Tenino will take on La Center for its next game on Saturday.
