Beavers win via tiebreaker in long-awaited season opener

The skies finally cleared for the Tenino girls tennis team in Centralia on Wednesday, when the Beavers won their season opener via tiebreaker against Fort Vancouver.

The two teams split the six matches 3-3, but the Beavers won the games tiebreaker across the six games 50-46.

“It was nice to finally get out there and see what they’re capable of,” Tenino coach Sam Shea said. “It was pretty good. I’m excited to get back out there and keep improving.”

Amelia Hays and Alanna Cushing both lost their singles matches, but Chloe Seuss swept her opponent 6-0, 6-0 to prevent the singles sweep.



Kyla Watson and Gracie Sweet won their doubles match 6-2, 6-0, and Taylor Sturgill and Presley Jones won their match 6-3, 6-0.

Kaycee Jones and Leah Noll bounced back after losing the first set and forced a third, but fell 3-6, 7-5, 1-6.

The Beavers will be back at Centralia on Thursday to host Castle Rock.
