Onalaska trailed by three at the half then outscored Napavine 29-13 in the second half to claim a 50-37 road victory over the Tigers in Central 2B League action on Tuesday.
The Loggers were aided by junior guard Morgan Hamilton’s game-highs of 20 points and five steals to go with eight rebounds in an all-around performance.
Her sister, Dakota Hamilton, added 11 points and six boards, while Callie Lawrence contributed eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
“Credit goes to Onalaska tonight,” Napavine coach Shane Schutz said. “The Hamilton sisters and (Callie Lawrence) just hate to lose and they use their competitive spirit to find a way to win.”
Napavine, meanwhile, struggled shooting, hitting just 29% of its shots from the field, including 1 of 11 from 3-point land.
Onalaska took advantage of its trips to the charity stripe, knocking in 15 of 18 from the free-throw line, while Napavine was just 5 of 16.
The Tigers were within striking distance until the fourth quarter, when Onalaska reeled off a 17-7 run to end the game and preserve the win.
“Our girls battled for three quarters, but in the end, we got beat by a more competitive group of kids and coaches,” Schutz said. “Hopefully, we can learn and continue to find ways to improve from this experience.”
Napavine was led offensively by Hayden Kaut’s 11 points, while Avery Schutz added nine points, Natalya Marcial hauled in five boards and three steals and Keira O’Neill brought down six boards.
Napavine (6-6, 3-2 C2BL) hosts Wahkiakum on Thursday. Onalaska (10-3, 4-1 C2BL) takes over sole possession of third place in league and hosts Rainier on Thursday.
