Much like a night ago, during a 97-88 loss to Everett in its season opener, Centralia College mens basketball fell behind early and couldn’t climb out, taking an 88-76 defeat to Edmonds in Everett Saturday.
“We just came out really lethargic,” Blazers coach Jason Moir said.
The Trailblazers trailed 45-25 at the half before coming alive in the second half and outsourcing Edmonds 51-43 to close out the game. But it wasn’t quite enough to engineer a comeback.
Guard Colby White finished with a team-high 21 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Wendell Davis Jr. added 15 and Abraham Konin and Adrian Brown each chipped in 11.
“We have some guys who can score,” Moir said. “It would be nice if they could come the same night to score and trust in each other some more.”
The Blazers finished with 18 total assists, and Moir said when they’re moving the ball around they’re good at finding the basket.
Centralia College falls to 0-2 and will face Skagit Valley at 4 p.m. on Sunday. Moir said while he obviously doesn’t like losing, he also doesn’t regret scheduling tough preseason competition.
“A lot of (Northwest Athletic Conference) teams open up playing JV teams or alumni squads,” Moir said. “That’s something I’ve never done. It does a lot to see the top teams in the North Division. It’s a good weekend to evaluate and see where we are.”
