Blazers Drop Two in Longview

The Centralia College men’s basketball team went to Cowlitz County looking for its first wins of the season over the weekend, but only came back with two more losses, falling 80-60 to Everett and Southwestern Oregon 84-66 at the Red Devil Classic in Longview.

Both matchups saw the Trailblazers play their opponents close in the first half; they trailed the Titans by four points in their Friday matchup, and were tied 35-35 against Lakers on Saturday, but lost the second halves by a combined 34 points.

Freshman Trevion Frazier led CC with 22 points against Everett, going 10 for 19 from the field, but was the only Trailblazer to finish in double figures. The next night out, SOCC held Frazier to no points, and sophomore Raymond Guillory led the way with 14 points, with Juelz Mendoz and Adrian Brown both pitching in 13.

W.F. West’s Kayden Kelly and Centralia’s Landon Kaut both started both games, though neither scored a point over the weekend. Kelly had four rebounds in each game, and also came away with three steals against Everett. Coming off the bench, Winlock product Bryce Cline put up 11 points across the two games and brought down seven rebounds.

As has been the pattern early, head coach Jason Moir rolled with a big rotation, playing 13 players against Everett and 11 against Southwestern Oregon.

Centralia (0-5) will get a week off before returning home to host Edmonds College next Saturday.
