Centralia College baseball continued its hot streak with a doubleheader sweep of Clackamas — both in extra innings — on the road Thursday to run its win streak to nine games.

The Trailblazers broke a 6-6 tie in the 10th inning by plating three runs then holding Clackamas to just one in the bottom of the 10th to secure the 9-7 victory.

“Casen Taggert had a clutch hit in extra innings to give us the lead with Cole Tague closing the game,” Centralia College coach Ben Harley said.

Taggert finished 3 for 6 at the plate with three RBIs.

In Game 2, Jaymz Knowlton hit a double over Clackamas’ center fielder’s head in the 11th to drive in a run, then stole third base and scored on an overthrow by the catcher to give the Blazers all they would need for an 8-6 win.

Centralia High School alum Derek Beairsto threw the last three innings to help clinch the win. Beairsto struck out five and allowed just one hit and one walk with no runs.

Matthew Beckworth led the offensive assault with 3-for-5 hitting with a run scored.

“There are some days in baseball when you may not have your best stuff or playing your best, and you have to find a way to win regardless,” Harley said. “Our guys did a great job in Game 2 of overcoming an early five-run deficit and battled back to win it in extras.”

The Blazers (10-7) face Clark College at 1 p.m. and Linn-Benton at 4 p.m. on Sunday at Linn-Benton before opening up West Division play in April.
