Centralia College baseball was held to just three hits as the Blazers to a 3-1 loss at home to open Northwest Athletic Conference West Region play on Saturday.

The Blazers and Tritons slugged it out in a pitching duel.

Today's game was a pitching duel, with Centralia High School alum Derek Beairsto getting the start on the mound for CC.

Beairsto struck out four batters with one earned run on four hits and four walks across four innings of work. Ayden Ruminski pitched three innings of relief, striking out two and allowing one earned run on three hits. Brockton Keller tossed two scoreless and hitless innings, striking out one.

Andrew Dalton led the offense, going 2 for 3 with a run scored while Matthew Obst had the Blazers’ only other hit, going 1 for 4.

"As a team, we talk a lot about playing our brand of baseball, regardless of who we are playing,” Blazers coach Ben Harley said. “Tacoma is a well-coached ball club, and it was a great measuring stick for us to see where we stand in the West Division. Luckily, one game does not define our season and it is all about playing our best baseball in the middle of May when playoffs start.”

Centralia College played at Lower Columbia College on Sunday.
