After tying Bellevue 2-2 on Saturday, the Centralia College women’s soccer team is still alive for the Northwest Athletic Conference playoffs.

Kennedy Bodily and Pe Ell graduate Ali Armstrong each scored a goal against Bellevue to help the Blazers end in a tie Saturday.

“We played well and would have won if not for referee error,” Centralia College coach Clarence Gunderson said. “I thought we dominated and had more possession. Overall, we were the better side.”

Now, currently sitting in fifth place in the NWAC, Centralia College needs to not only win out but also needs some help from other teams.

Highline is currently in first place with 19 points, Pierce is in second (16), Bellevue third (14) and Centralia, Tacoma and Lower Columbia are all tied for fourth with 13 points. With only three playoff berths in the West Region, the Blazers need one of the top three teams to lose in order to gain one of the top three spots.

The good news is they play Highline on the road this Saturday, then Pierce on Oct. 27 to close out the regular season. The bad news is Highline and Pierce are the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the region, respectively.

Still, Gunderson said he knows his squad can beat Pierce, and is hopeful they can also upset Highline.
