Brooklyn Loose Hits For the Cycle in Pirates’ Win Over Loggers

Putting together one of her strongest games at the plate of the season, Adna softball senior Brooklyn Loose hit for the rare cycle in a 8-1 Central 2B League win over Onalaska Monday afternoon.

In what started as a pitchers’ duel early on, Loose couldn’t be stopped throughout all seven innings, going a perfect 5 for 5. The senior hit a triple in the first inning, a single in the third, a double in the fifth, and capped the cycle with a deep shot to left in the seventh.

Not to be completely out-done, Adna starter Karlee VonMoos threw a complete game no-hitter, despite letting in a run in the first inning off a couple of walks and a steal of home. The senior struck out 15, but walked four and hit two batters in the win. Danika Hallom added two hits for Adna with a double, VonMoos had a double and two hits, and Natalie Loose went 3 for 4 with two RBIs.

The Loggers, meanwhile, kept themselves in the mix through four innings, holding the vaunted Pirate offense to just two runs to that point before Loose and Adna proved to be too much.

Logger starter Lisa Liddell pitched another complete game, racking up 10 strikeouts of her own with just six of the eight Adna runs earned on 10 hits and two walks.

Desi Smith scored Ony’s lone run in the first, and drew two walks at leadoff.

“I’m proud of the whole team,” Ony coach Rich Teitzel said. “We needed to tighten up and start playing better ball in the second half of the season, and we’re getting to the top of the hill on that and beginning to get over the hump. We’ve just got to put the ball in play, we can’t leave people on base. When you play a tough team like that, you have to move people on base.”

The Pirates also won a non-league second game against the Loggers immediately after, 17-0 in four innings. Ava Simms tossed all four innings and recorded the shortened no-hitter with nine strikeouts, and also hit a home run on a 3 for 3 performance with six RBIs.

The Loggers take on Morton-White Pass in Randle for a single league game on Thursday, while Adna heads to Napavine.
