W.F. West senior Drea Brumfield can add another school record to her resume: career 3-pointers.

Brumfield, who helped the Bearcats to a 77-10 blowout of Class 3A River Ridge on Tuesday, entered the game tied with Ryan Tahl with 119 career 3-pointers. With 5:58 left in the second quarter, Brumfield received a pass on the wing and let rip a shot that found nothing but net, breaking the record set by Tahl from 2008-11.

Brumfield, who finished with a game-high 19 points, would make two more treys and now currently sits at 122.

“Drea did what Drea does,” W.F. West coach Kyle Karnofski said.

It was a highlight of the Bearcats’ dominant full-team victory over the Hawks. W.F. West’s vaunted defense held River Ridge scoreless in the second and third quarters, and the Hawks managed just four points heading into the fourth quarter.

“Our goal was to come in, execute and control what we can control,” Karnofski said. “We didn’t want to get sloppy.”

They didn’t. Freshman Amanda Bennett and seniors Olivia Remund and Mak Mencke swarmed the Hawks’ ball handlers in an unbreakable first-quarter press.

“Those three set the tone in our press,” Karnofski said.

Bennett and Remund also got it done on the offensive end, with Bennett scoring 11 points in the first quarter alone, finishing with 13. Remund added 11 points herself and senior floor general Kyla McCallum chipped in 10 points.

“Kyla was really good all night, scoring, distributing the ball and being a leader,” Karnofski said.

Nine Bearcats in total scored points on the night.

W.F. West (5-1, 2-0 EvCo) hosts defending district champion Tumwater on Friday.
