Last year, for the first time, organizers of the Southwest Washington Fair introduced a mullet contest.
By popular demand, it’s back and likely to stick around for fairs of the future.
Kicking off on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 19, at 4 p.m. on the Saloon Stage, age division-separated mullet competitors will reach for the title of best mullet.
Whoever can business-in-the-front and party-in-the-back the hardest, for each age bracket, will earn prizes. The awards are yet to be determined.
“It was huge last year,” said Pat Slusher Jr., a fair office employee. “That’s on Saturday. You don’t need to sign in to be in it, just show up.”
Other contests this year will include a watermelon eating contest, pie eating contest, the Sunday talent show and daily contests for families on the Community Stage at 5 p.m., including categories for reddest hair, most freckles, best smile and who looks the most like mom or dad.
