Cameron Sheets’ Clutch Goal Propels Bearcats over Bobcats

W.F. West junior Cameron Sheets received an excellent pass from Kyla McCallum, beat her defender and ripped a shot underneath Aberdeen’s keeper into the back of the net in the 88th minute to seal a 1-0 victory for the Bearcats at home Thursday.

Sheets’ clutch goal, which came just two minutes before the match would have gone to a shootout, runs the Bearcats’ win streak to three matches, moving them to 5-1 in league play.

“It was a pretty back and forth game,” W.F. West coach Allen Anderson said. “It was intense, and it was nice to end it before the stress of a shootout.”

The Bearcats outshot the Bobcats, 10-1, but overcame a rough shooting night by countering with excellent defense to pitch their second-straight shutout.

“Our defense did a really good job reducing the amount of pressure,” Anderson said. “In the end, I’m really proud of the girls. This was a big week for us playing both Black Hills and Aberdeen.”

W.F. West (6-2, 5-1 league) travels to rival Centralia for the second round of the rotary cup at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
