The Winlock girls basketball team only trailed by one after a quarter of play at home Saturday, but a shutout of a second quarter turned the deficit into 10 by halftime, and things only got worse in a 60-27 loss to Stevenson.

The Bulldogs finished the game on a 50-18 run,  scoring 41 points in the second half.

Kindyl Kelly led Winlock with nine points, and also had five rebounds, five steals and four assists. Natalie Cardenas added six points and six rebounds, Victoria Sancho had six points of her own and Kendyl Guenther starred on the glass with a team-high 10 boards.

“Overall the team got better this afternoon,” Winlock coach Dracy McCoy said. “I am seeing a lot of good things from our younger players and their confidence is growing.”

Winlock will host Wahkiakum on Wednesday.
