Cardinals Pick Up First League Win Over ‘Nooks

Picking up a home Central 2B win for the first time this season, the Winlock boys basketball team defeated Kalama Wednesday night, 56-45.

The Cardinals fell behind, 16-8, in the opening frame before buckling down on defense and making life miserable for the Chinooks.

“We made some adjustments defensively and our guys responded well,” Cardinals coach Cole Doughty said. “Our kids stepped up to the challenge of trying some new things defensively and executed well. This group plays hard all of the time and tonight especially, their effort level won them the game.”

Chase Scofield had a monster night, scoring 18 points to go along with 14 rebounds, and Payton Sickles added 13 points and seven boards as well for the Cards. Landon Cline had a good floor game, with five points and six assists, and Lincoln Ruiz scored another nine for the Cardinals.

Winlock takes on Rainier on the road Friday in another league contest.
