Cardinals Use Fourth-Quarter Free Throws to Sink Ducks

Toutle Lake cut Winlock’s lead to three in the fourth quarter but the Cardinals drew fouls, connected at the charity stripe and came away with a 61-46 road win on Wednesday in non-league play.

The Cardinals raced out to a big 20-9 lead to start the game behind two 3-pointers from senior Addison Hall and another by Kindyl Kelly.

“We had a good first quarter. That was nice,” Winlock coach Dracy McCoy said. “We hit some key shots to get us going.”

But a six-point third quarter by the Cardinals let Toutle Lake climb back in it and pull within three at 38-35. That’s when Hall and Pe Ell-addition Charlie Carper began attacking the rim and drawing fouls.

Hall connected on 8 of 8 free throw attempts and Carper finished 7 of 10 from the charity stripe as the Cardinals held on for the victory. Winlock was 15 of 18 as a team from the line.

Hall scored a game-high 26 points, which included 4 of 6 shooting from beyond the arc, to go with 11 rebounds. Carper tallied 15 points, 12 rebounds and a game-high six steals.

Senior post Madison Vigre added 13 boards and Kelly scored 12 points and dished out a team-high five assists.

Winlock (4-1) travels to Rainier Thursday.
