The Centralia College basketball teams split a doubleheader against Tacoma Community College on Saturday, as the women won 86-56 before the men lost a tightly-contested matchup 76-73.
The women cruised on offense, scoring at least 20 points in each of the first three quarters to help build a 29-point lead. The Trailblazers were just as impressive on the defensive end, allowing 15 or fewer points in three frames.
Ella Baumgartner scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Abi Lundblad posted a double-double by scoring 19 points and hauling in 13 rebounds. Lundblad also blocked a pair of shots.
Marecia Barnett scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Jazmin Moctezuma scored 12 points and dished out seven assists.
Meletava Fonohea was excellent on the boards off the bench, grabbing a team-high 14 rebounds while scoring two points. As a team, the Trailblazers out-rebounded the Titans 54-22.
The men trailed by 11 at halftime, but fought back to get within a point heading into the final moments of the game.
A pair of late free throws pushed TCC’s lead to three with 10 seconds left, and CC couldn’t tie the game before the buzzer sounded.
Kevin Williams scored a team-high 21 points and added seven assists, while Lance Green scored 12 points and grabbed nine boards.
Reilly McIlraith also scored 12 points, while Clay Morgan added 10 and Shay Brannon scored six.
The men’s team (1-15, 0-2 NWAC) will be back at home on Wednesday against Grays Harbor, while the women’s team (4-11, 1-1 NWAC) will be on the road at Highline on Saturday.
