Centralia American Legion post looking for volunteers

The local American Legion post in Centralia — Grant Hodge Post 17 — is looking for volunteers to work several positions within the post, with the main one being someone to run the post’s public relations, Grant Hodge Post 17 Commander Bob Clark said.

“You would keep the website and Facebook updated with current events and send out PSAs to the local news media,” Clark said in an email. “Plus assist with our monthly outpost.”

Despite being an organization for veterans, volunteers don’t actually have to be veterans themselves and can also become American Legion members.

“The American Legion is a family,” Clark said. “Anyone that had a parent, grandparent or great-grandparent serve can join our organization. It’s not just for those that served but for the family of those that served.”

Grant Hodge Post 17 is looking to grow as it continues serving local veterans in the area. Clark said volunteers are vital to that growth.

“Your current executive committee can’t do it all and there are a lot of moving parts,” Clark said.

Along with a new public relations volunteer, the post is also looking for someone to help write grant requests for Grant Hodge Post 17.

The post’s lounge and bar manager position will also be opening up soon. An announcement complete with application instructions will be issued once the job description is approved and other administrative processes are updated.

“We also can use some more volunteers for upcoming events,” Clark added.

Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Clark at Commander@granthodgepost17.org.

Grant Hodge Post 17 is located at 111 1/2 W. Main St. in downtown Centralia.
