Centralia and Chehalis ports pass 2024 annual budgets

With 2023 coming to a close, both the Port of Centralia and Port of Chehalis recently approved their 2024 fiscal year budgets.

For the Port of Centralia, budget revenues amounted to $2,075,851 with expenditures adding up to $1,910,242. The port commissioners also moved to renew the port’s levy, but not increase it, during a Nov. 15 meeting.

“So, holding it the same at 28 cents (per $1,000 of assessed property value),” Port of Centralia Executive Director Kyle Heaton said during the Nov. 15 meeting.

Heaton added the rate would likely decrease once new construction is factored in by the Lewis County Assessor’s Office, but he didn’t expect to have finalized numbers from the office until the end of the year.

“That levy rate will likely trend down some, what that will be, we don’t know, not significantly but like a penny, something like that,” Heaton said.

While the commissioners voted to keep the levy rate the same, they did bank the capacity to raise it next year.

Port of Chehalis revenues totaled $836,659.59 with expenditures equaling the port’s revenues. Port commissioners moved to renew the port’s levy during an Oct. 26 meeting.

“Not much different than last year,” Port of Chehalis auditor Justine Pense said during the Oct. 26 meeting.
