Centralia bounces back with win over Shelton

The Centralia girls tennis team got back in the win column on Thursday, taking down Shelton 5-1 for a road victory.

“It was great to get a win in our first away match of the season,” Centralia assistant coach Carissa Kaut said. “The girls came out ready to compete.”

The Tigers swept the three singles matches, as Maya Lackie, Esther Hopkins, and Eliyah Rooklidge won their matches in straight sets.

Lackie and Shelton’s Willow LovingFoss went back-and-forth throughout both sets, but Lackie pulled away to win both 7-5.

“Maya played some great tennis today,” Kaut said. “She’s really gaining confidence with each match.”

Brook Frakes and Madi Breckel won their doubles match 6-2, 6-3, and Suki Bringman and Neela Haywood won their match 6-1, 6-1.

“Our singles players fought through tough points, and our doubles teams put together solid performances,” Kaut said. “Every day, we’re focused on getting one percent better, and the progress is showing.”

The Tigers are off for the next week and a half. They’ll return to play at home against Tumwater on Monday, March 14.
