Christmastime is also known as the season of giving, which is exactly what the Centralia Community Foundation did this month when the organization donated $15,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Lewis County, according to a news release.

“The partnership between the Centralia Foundation and the Boys & Girls Club of Lewis County underscores our joint commitment to providing meaningful opportunities for our youth,” Boys & Girls Club of Lewis County Executive Director Sarah Althauser said in the release. “This substantial funding not only empowers us to build pathways to opportunity and growth but also ensures a brighter future for every child in our locality."

Althauser added the Centralia Community Foundation’s support is instrumental. Along with ongoing support from other local partners, it helps keep the club “well-positioned to continue positively impacting the lives of over 140 club members.”

According to Mat Potter, resource development coordinator for the Boys & Girls Club of Lewis County, the donation will be used to help aid staff development along with growing the club’s vocational science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) opportunities, “allowing the kids to have hands-on STEM activities that open their interests in these areas.”

The Boys & Girls Club of Lewis County operates in the Robert Q. Balmelli Clubhouse at 2071 Jackson Highway in Chehalis and the in-school club at Jefferson Lincoln Elementary School in Centralia.

A nationwide nonprofit, Boys & Girls Clubs offer safe places for children who might have very little or no adult care or supervision outside of school to learn and grow, according to its website. To learn more about the Boys & Girls Club of Lewis County, visit https://www.bgcchehalis.org/
