The Centralia boys soccer team earned its third straight win to open the spring on Tuesday, taking down Yelm on the road 3-0.
“Coming in against an unknown opponent, it was a little nervewrecking,” Centralia coach Noel Vazquez said. “We were able to settle in and maintain possession. The boys were able to finish their opps and make it count when it really mattered.”
Damian Corona opened the scoring in the 35th minute off an assist from Adan Perez, and that score held until a foul in the box put Corona at the spot in the 75th minute.
He promptly converted, and three minutes later, a shot off the foot of Miles Paige deflected off the keeper’s hands and a defender and into the net to make it 3-0.
Vazquez gave credit to his back line — Andres Mejia-Ceja, Abel Mejia-Ceja, Kevin Martinez, and Adrian Hernandez — saying that they “held it down.”
“They moved the ball really well, helped us maintain the ball, and build the feel,” Vazquez said.
Alejandro Arevalo tallied seven saves in net.
It’s the first time in Vazquez’s seven years with the team that they have started 3-0. The Tigers will look to make it 4-0 in Renton against Lindbergh on Wednesday.
“It’s something that is really exciting for the boys,” Vazquez said. “We’re looking to finish this week strong. It’s exciting, it’s something different, and it’s a challenge.”
