Centralia High School is building an incentive program to encourage students to uphold the school’s values of being present, being consistent, inspiring hope and striving to be 1% better every day.
The school’s “Tiger Bucks” program, which began last year, allows district staff to award a paper “Tiger Buck” to students they see upholding those values.
Students can then cash in those bucks at a bi-weekly Tiger Store set up in the school’s auditorium, which also enters students into drawings for staff-donated prizes such as Nike gift cards, headphones, catered lunches and more.
“Our hope would be that every student in the school would receive a Tiger Buck,” said Centralia High School Student Success Coordinator Ashley Meyers. “ … We’ve been tracking the data every trimester, and last time, I think, we had about 500 students (who have received Tiger Bucks), so we’re really making our way there.”
Centralia High School Vice President Kelly Sneed estimated that, as of Friday, roughly 3,000 Tiger Bucks had been handed out so far that year.
The amount was “easily” three times more than the total handed out last year, Sneed said.
“The kids just get really into it, and it’s really increased our positive behaviors,” she said.
