For the first time in program history, the Centralia High School powerlifting team entered the state meet and three athletes were crowned state champions on Saturday at Olympia High School.

Josemanuel Alatorre was the standout of the day by breaking the state record of a 385-pound deadlift in his weight class of 114-pounds. Olivia Friedley and Michelle Fadness also won state titles. Friedley was second place in pound-for-pound at 114.

Maddie Ahern and Julian Crenshaw each nabbed second place while Emma Fitzgerald, Caiden Tukes-Parke and Sydney Styger all placed in the top-six.

“This was more than a competition, it was a milestone for our school,” Tigers powerlifting coach Rose Waterfield-Taylor said. “These athletes worked incredibly hard all season and they represented Centralia with strength, pride and perseverance. They set the tone, laid the foundation and defined what Centralia powerlifting is all about.”
