A Centralia man has been convicted for starting a dumpster fire that spread to the Rent-a-Center in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue on Aug. 25.

The defendant, Trevor Singleton, 32, entered a guilty plea in Lewis County Superior Court on Wednesday and was given a 21-day jail sentence, with credit for the 21 days he has already served.

An order for his release was issued on Sept. 15.

In his plea, Singleton admitted to starting the fire in the dumpster, which spread from there to the Rent-A-Center in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue.

The fire was quickly extinguished and no one was injured, but the incident caused roughly $6,000 in damage to the exterior of the building, according to fire personnel.

Singleton may be ordered to pay restitution in the future, according to court documents, but a hearing to determine that amount has not yet been scheduled.
