A 22-year-old Centralia man was involved in a crash on Interstate 5 near Maytown Friday night that resulted in the death of a 68-year-old Lynwood man, according to the Washington State Patrol.

At about 10 p.m., the Lynwood man’s 2002 Subaru Legacy was disabled and blocking a southbound lane near mile marker 96 just north of Maytown Road. A 2002 Mazda Protege driven by the Centralia man was traveling south in the same lane. The Lynwood man exited his vehicle, and the Centralia man’s vehicle struck his vehicle and the driver.

The Centralia man’s vehicle then struck the jersey barrier.

The interstate was blocked for nearly four hours.

The Lynwood man, who has not been identified pending notification of next of kin, died at the scene. The Centralia man was not injured.

Both vehicles were totaled.

The state patrol listed the cause of the crash as a blocking vehicle.

It’s not known if alcohol or drugs played a factor, according to the state patrol.

The Centralia man was identified as Hermann F. Botchack.
