Centralia third grader wins annual state poison control poster competition

Every year, the Washington Poison Control Center invites students from kindergarten through 12th grade to participate in a poster-making competition for National Poison Awareness Week.

Centralia’s Aubree Huber won this year’s competition for grades 3 through 5.

Her poster was inspired by Harry Potter and features a slogan telling viewers to “leave the mixing to the pros!”

“My favorite part is the witch saying, ‘I shouldn’t have mixed bleach and ammonia together!’” Huber said.

It took her “around an hour” to make, she said.

As a reward, Huber’s third grade class at Jefferson Lincoln Elementary School got to have a party where they were visited by the directors of the poison control center and the poison control mascot, Mr. Yuk himself.

Additionally, Huber received a gift bag with a celebratory plaque and many other prizes from the poison control center.

The party had pizza and root beer floats for everyone, and the classroom was decorated with green tablecloths, balloons and streamers to match Mr. Yuk.

“I felt super happy,” Huber said.
