Centralia tops Tumwater again to improve to 9-1

The Centralia girls tennis team topped Tumwater for the second time this season, as the Tigers beat the T-Birds 4-2 on Tuesday to improve to 9-1 overall.

Maya Lackie, Esther Hopkins, and Eliyah Rooklidge swept the singles matches for the Tigers. Lackie and Hopkins won in straight sets, but Rooklidge had to win the third set 7-5 to win her match.

“I love Eliyah’s hidden grit,” Centralia coach Keith Hopkins said. “She is tough to beat because she fights for every point chasing down every ball.”

Brook Frakes and Neela Haywood won at the third doubles spot, and Saryn Pelesky and Suki Bringman forced a third set after losing the first, but ultimately fell in three.

“Our doubles play was impressive,” Hopkins said. “The new partners, particularly at second and third, are fueling each other and communicating well.”

Centralia will hit the road again on Wednesday to face Aberdeen.
