A Chehalis man has been charged for allegedly threatening to cut off a 7-year-old’s hand on Thursday.

The man, whose name has been withheld to protect the identity of the victim, allegedly accused the victim of “stealing Windex,” according to court documents.

When the victim refused his order to “come here,” he reportedly approached her while holding a “large knife” and “threatened to cut her hand off.” The victim screamed and a nearby adult entered the residence and pushed the defendant away from the victim, according to court documents.

The defendant has been charged with one count of second-degree assault of a child and two counts of third-degree assault.

Judge Joely O’Rourke set the defendant’s bail at $50,000.

“And I’m doing that based on the substantial threat to community safety,” O’Rourke said.

“If anybody were to read these allegations, they are completely bogus,” the defendant said.

He is scheduled to reappear in court for an arraignment hearing on Thursday.
