Pacific Lutheran University has named W.F. West High School student Natalie Eklund as a President’s Scholar, which awards the student a scholarship of $34,000 per year.

Eklund was part of an applicant pool of over 500, of which 133 President’s Scholars were selected, according to Pacific Lutheran University.

“All applicants met a rigorous standard of academic excellence; however, students awarded this scholarship displayed exemplary qualities in leadership, service, and academics, while also displaying the potential to enrich our campus community in the classroom and beyond,” Pacific Lutheran University stated in a news release.

This year’s President’s Scholars have a cumulative average weighted GPA of 4.10.

These top students are invited to the Pacific Lutheran campus this February to interview for the next tiers of Pacific Lutheran scholarships: the $40,000 per year Harstad Scholarship and full-tuition Regents’ Scholarship.

A small private university in Tacoma’s Parkland neighborhood, Pacific Lutheran University is known for its commitment to public service, robust student support services, and academic rigor, according to a news release, which stated the Pacific Lutheran University “experience allows students’ ambition to blossom into purpose, their skills to sharpen into tools, and their caring to become a transformative force in the world.”
