Coastal Conservation Association Holds Fundraiser Banquet; Fishing Trip With Legendary Local Guide Coming Up Soon

Posted

It was an eventful evening Saturday night at the Jester Auto Museum and Event Center in Chehalis as more than 200 people showed up for a fundraiser auction and banquet benefiting the Coastal Conservation Association, including State Senate Republican Leader John Braun, R-Centralia.

There was both a silent and live auction, as well as raffle giveaways including custom fishing rods and lures, guided fishing trips and coolers filled with freshly-caught crab.

The Chronicle will join one of the guided fishing trips for a feature story in an upcoming edition with legendary local guide Clancy Holt and son, Ron Holt, of Clancy’s Guided Sportfishing in Chehalis.

Details of the trip will depend on the auction winner’s wishes. They can choose to fish for salmon, steelhead, sturgeon or trout.

Now 83 years old, Holt has been fishing in the waters of Southwest Washington his entire life, including the Chehalis, Cowlitz and Columbia rivers. He guided his first fishing trip when he was only 16.

“That’s what I did for a living my whole life. I could’ve chosen another profession and made a lot more money, but I lived my life like I wanted to,” Holt said Saturday night. “I went fishing every day and I’ve met a million nice people who I helped catch their first steelhead or salmon or whatever.”
