There's lots of Lewis County athletes playing sports at the college level, especially in the spring. Here's a roundup of how some of them are doing at four-year schools.
Baseball
Colton Schoelkopf, a catcher from Chehalis, was 2 for 4 for Colorado Mesa University in an 11-6 win over CSU-Pueblo on Friday to open a four-game weekend series in Grand Junction. He also went 2 for 4 in a 15-1 win to close the series — which Colorado Mesa swept — on Sunday, lifting his average to .348 (24 for 69) for the 26-6 Mavericks.
Robert Pehl, a sophomore infielder from Chehalis, went 1 for 4 and drove in a pair of runs for the University of Washington on Monday in an 8-7 loss at Cal State Northridge. Pehl has started all 30 games for the 8-22 Huskies and is batting .262.
Ryan Knutz, a catcher for Bellevue University, went 4 for 7 with three doubles during a 13-6, 3-1 sweep of York on Sunday. Knutz, a senior from Rochester, has played in 35 games for the 28-6-1 Bruins and is batting .257.
Josh Moss, a sophomore pitcher from Rochester, is leading the Saint Martin's University pitching staff with 34 strikeouts and 46.2 innings pitched, with a 6.56 earned-run average.
Softball
Dani Wall, a sophomore from Tenino, hit a solo home run for Saint Martin's University on Sunday in a 9-2 win over Chaminade in the semifinals of the Tournament of Champions in Lacey. Wall went 2 for 3 in the semifinals, but SMU lost to Dominguez Hills in the championship game. Wall has started all 37 games for the 26-10 Saints, and is hitting .284 with 20 RBIs.
Jordan Sandrini, a freshman from Adna, was 1 for 4 for Siena in a 14-10 loss to Seton Hall on Sunday, and older sister Jessika-Jo — a junior — was 1 for 2 for the Saints in a loss to Iona to close out a doubleheader on Saturday. The elder Sandrini is hitting .338 and has started every game for the 6-20 Saints, while the younger Sandrini is hitting .219 and has played in 22 games.
Lauren Liseth, a junior from Centralia, had a hit in each game of Fairfield University's doubleheader with Marist College on Sunday, though the Stags lost 3-2 and 3-1. Liseth is hitting a team-high .435 and leads Fairfield (14-14) in runs (20), doubles (8), home runs (6), RBIs (26), and walks (33).
Amanda Woods, a freshman from Pe Ell, had three hits and three RBIs during Pacific Lutheran University's four-game sweep at the hands of Linfield over the weekend. Woods is hitting .366 with 27 RBIs for the 15-21 Bruins.
Hannah Pomeroy, a senior from Mossyrock, tossed six innings and allowed one run for Western Oregon University on Saturday in a 2-0 loss to Notre Dame de Namur. Pomeroy has a 10-6 record and a 3.74 ERA for the 20-21 Wolves, and is hitting .226 with 17 RBIs.
Sarah Barnes went 1 for 4 for Boise State University on Sunday in a 13-0 win over New Mexico in Albuquerque. The freshman from Onalaska also went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a double in a 6-5 loss to New Mexico on Saturday, and is hitting .234 with 10 RBIs for the 17-19-1 Broncos.
Jet'aime Mullins, a senior from White Pass High School, had a hit and an RBI in both games of Lewis & Clark University's 7-2, 11-3 sweep of the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma on Monday. Mullins hit her fourth home run of the season in a 9-1 loss to Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday, and is hitting .292 with 20 RBIs for the 15-19 Pioneers.
Track & Field
Katie Jahnsen finished second in the hammer throw for Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday at the J.D. Shotwell Invitational at Puget Sound University's Baker Stadium. Jahnsen, a senior from W.F. West, tossed the hammer 149 feet, 7 inches.
Andy Robertson, a sophomore from W.F. West, was third in the 800 meters for Boise State University on Saturday in the All-Idaho Cup track meet in Boise. Robertson finished in 1 minute, 52.81 seconds, right behind teammates Bryce Bergevin (1:52.29) and Matthew Moyer (1:52.79). Austin Hamilton, also a sophomore from W.F. West, was fourth in the javelin at the meet, competing on Friday and notching a throw of 200 feet, 11 inches.
Caroline Austin, a senior from Chehalis, was the runner-up in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Pepsi Team Invitational Saturday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Austin, running for Washington State University, improved her personal-best with a mark of 10 minutes, 18.77 seconds — third-best all-time at WSU — and finished second only to Washington's Marie Lawrence, who set a meet record in 10:07.79.
