Centralia College volleyball played its best defense and serve-receive all season but it wasn’t enough to overcome visiting South Puget Sound Community College in a straight-set defeat (25-17, 25-21, 25-14) at Michael Smith Gymnasium Wednesday.
“By far the best game in that area all season,” Centralia coach Susan Gordon said.
Andee Nelson, a former Mossyrock star, put up 86 balls, had no ball-handling errors or bad position sets and was praised by Gordon for her excellent setting performance.
Gordon also commended Toledo grad Kate Demery, as well as Casey Wentz, for noteworthy play.
The Blazers had 20 kills as a team with 44 balls hit in and a dismal 22 errors.
“You cannot win games with a negative kill percentage as a team,” Gordon said. “You cannot win games hitting 44 balls safely onto the court. We have to be aggressive and confident in our attack.” When we do, our game will be at the top. We served well. This team is not done. They are determined to get better and our stats will change”
Centralia College falls to 2-9 overall and 0-3 in West Region play. South Puget Sound improves to 3-12 overall and 2-1 in the West Region.
